On November 14, 2025, Solon police officers responded to an emergency call regarding an unattended child inside a vehicle at an Aldi supermarket parking lot. Upon arrival, officers located a black Mercedes-Benz containing a one-year-old infant in the backseat. The vehicle's engine was off, the doors were locked, and the windows were cracked open, exposing the child to ambient outdoor temperatures of approximately 40°F. The infant was observed crying and actively shivering. Due to the immediate risk to the child's safety and the absence of a guardian, officers utilized a lockout tool to breach the vehicle and extricate the infant. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived on scene shortly after to evaluate the child for exposure. During the search for the operator of the vehicle, a 32-year-old male approached officers and identified himself as the biological father. When questioned, the suspect admitted to leaving the minor unattended to enter the supermarket. He alleged that he lacked the 25-cent deposit required to secure a shopping cart and was physically unable to carry the infant due to recent plasma donation complications.
