Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At approximately 8:27 PM on December 24, 2023, Officers Sean Barry and Tony Perito from the Middletown Township Police Department were called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving a 2022 Nissan Altima on Port Monmouth Road. Upon arrival, it was evident that the vehicle had collided with a utility pole, resulting in significant damage. The officers then proceeded to make contact with the driver, identified as 19-year-old Pharyze. Officer Julian Reis arrived shortly thereafter to provide assistance, and inquired of Pharyze whether she had consumed alcohol. Although she denied imbibing any alcohol, Officer Reis discerned the scent of alcohol. Due to his suspicion of impairment, Officer Reis requested Pharyze to participate in field sobriety exercises. During the initial assessment, Officer Reis conducted the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. It was observed that there was an absence of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus before reaching 45 degrees. Subsequently, the Walk and Turn test revealed that Pharyze failed to consistently place heel-to-toe on each step and took an incorrect number of steps. The final evaluation, the One Leg Stand test, was not satisfactorily completed by Pharyze. Following the motor vehicle accident, the presence of alcohol odor on her person, and her inability to successfully complete the field sobriety exercises, Officer Reis took Pharyze into custody for driving under the influence. Her vehicle was subjected to a search and impounded for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Officer Perito then proceeded to transport Pharyze to the Middletown Township Police Headquarters for further processing. At the police headquarters, Pharyze displayed a lack of cooperation. Despite being presented with the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, she declined to provide breath samples for testing. Pharyze was eventually released to her father after he signed the Potential Liability Warning Form on her behalf. She was cited for multiple infractions, including operating under the influence, operating under the influence underage, refusal to submit breath samples, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to possess a driver's license, failure to report an accident, and traffic on marked lanes.
