The Knoxville Police Department released body camera footage on Friday showing an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Tuesday, November 12. The incident began around 1:15 p.m. when a 911 call prompted a response from KPD officers Eric Smith, Alexandra Burns, and later Neil Marasigan. Responding to the 2600 block of Fairview Street, the officers encountered 52-year-old Christopher Arons, who was armed with an axe. The situation escalated, leading the officers to fire at Arons, striking him at least once. He was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and is expected to survive. Arons now faces charges of two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of vandalism. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the shooting, as is standard procedure in officer-involved incidents. Additionally, Officers Smith and Burns have been placed on administrative leave while the department conducts its own internal investigation.
