Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At approximately 1:44 AM on August 15, 2022, Officer Patrick Barry from the Hillsborough Township Police Department noticed a 2017 Hyundai Tucson parked in the westbound lane of Old Camplain Road with its hazard lights activated. As he got closer, the car started moving toward Route 206. The driver did not come to a full stop at a stop sign and made a right turn onto Route 206 heading north. While approaching Park Avenue, the vehicle began to drift over the double yellow lines. Officer Barry then turned on his emergency lights to pull the car over on Route 206 near Brooks Boulevard. He contacted the driver, who was identified as 28-year-old Ariana Acunavargas. He inquired about Ariana's whereabouts, and she turned to Officer Barry to ask if he could speak Spanish. Ariana informed Officer Barry that she had come from Hillsborough and was on her way to her boyfriend's place in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Officer Barry requested Officer Dennis Rivera to come to assist with translation. After a brief wait, Officer Rivera arrived and asked Ariana in Spanish if she had consumed any alcohol. She claimed she had not, but Officer Barry noticed a smell of alcohol in her vehicle and wanted to check her eyes. Based on their concerns about possible impairment, the officers instructed Ariana to step out of the vehicle and complete field sobriety tests. Officer Barry began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During this test, Officer Ross noted that Ariana's eyes did not move smoothly, showed clear signs of nystagmus at the farthest point, and began to exhibit nystagmus before reaching 45 degrees. The second test was the Walk and Turn test. In this test, Ariana struggled to keep her balance, did not walk heel-to-toe, and did not turn correctly. The final test was the One Leg Stand test, where Ariana repeatedly lowered her foot and raised her arms for balance. Due to her unpredictable driving, the smell of alcohol on her, and her failure to pass the field sobriety tests, Officer Barry arrested Ariana for driving under the influence. Her car was searched and taken for a required 12-hour hold as mandated by John’s Law. Officer Barry then took Ariana to the Montgomery Police Department for processing, since the Alcotest machine was not working at the Hillsborough Township Police Department. At the station, they played the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators in Spanish, and Ariana agreed to provide breath samples for testing. Officer Thomas Ward from the Montgomery Police Department conducted the Alcotest after observing her for 20 minutes. The results showed Ariana had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.20%, which is more than twice the legal limit of 0.08%. After Ariana went through processing, she was taken to the Hillsborough Township Police Department for additional procedures. She was later released to her boyfriend, who signed the Potential Liability Warning on her behalf, and is required to appear in court. Ariana received several summonses for operating under the influence, having an open container of alcohol, failing to keep right, not having an insurance card, and not stopping at a stop sign. Court documents show that on March 27, 2023, Ariana admitted to driving while under the influence and paid $740 in fines. Her driver's license was taken away for 4 months, and she must use an ignition interlock device for 9 months. Additionally, she is required to complete 12 hours at a resource center for intoxicated drivers. The other 4 charges against her were dropped as part of a plea deal. 0:24 how hard is it to say license, registration and insurance? 8:19 officer was trying to excuse her DUI.. or something..
