A routine traffic stop in Utah takes a shocking turn when a Utah trooper discovers more than 30,000 fentanyl pills inside an SUV carrying a mother, father, and their three young children. The children, ranging from just five months to ten years old, were sitting in the same vehicle where troopers ultimately discovered the massive stash of fentanyl. What begins as a stop for a vehicle drifting near the white line and a faulty brake light quickly becomes something much more serious. After the mother admits there are drugs inside the SUV, troopers have probable cause to search the vehicle — and what they find inside a cooler changes everything. According to DEA testing that year, seven out of every ten fentanyl pills tested contained a potentially lethal dose. With the children still at the scene, troopers work to keep them safe and comfortable while waiting for child services to arrive. The case eventually goes federal. The father pleads guilty to possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute and is sentenced to 92 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. The mother receives 28 months, with credit for time served, followed by three years of supervised release. This traffic stop is a disturbing example of how quickly an ordinary encounter on the road can uncover something far more serious — and how dangerous the consequences can be when children are caught in the middle. #PoliceBodycam #TrafficStop #Bodycam #body cam #TrueCrime #crime #police
