REAL POLICE BODYCAM footage captures the escalating tension during a rural Illinois traffic stop that would ultimately result in two injured deputies and attempted disarming of an officer. This bodycam video documents the defiant attitude and resistance that preceded a violent confrontation in Sheldon, Illinois. In this police bodycam footage, the confrontation begins when an officer directs 58-year-old Terry Gardner to exit the vehicle: "Go ahead and hop out." Gardner immediately responds with sarcasm and defiance: "Now, you can- You know what? You might as well take your handcuffs off and put 'em on me if you want me to get out of this car. Really? Man, fuck that." This hostile response, captured on the bodycam, foreshadows the violent resistance that would follow. The interaction includes claims of racial bias from the passenger, who states: "This a big deal to me because I feel harassed because, um, for one thing- Yeah, if I wasn't, if I wasn't Black she wouldn't be doing that." These accusations, recorded on police bodycam, add another layer of tension to what began as a routine traffic stop for failure to use a turn signal. Gardner expresses broader frustration with law enforcement: "I'm just tired of people that's supposed to be out to help you- You gotta do? Do this. The people that's supposed to be out to help you is your worst fucking enemy." He continues with inflammatory rhetoric: "Well, that's why motherfu... That's why shit going the way, the way shit be going these days. It ain't the people. It ain't the people. It's these crooked-ass goddamn police." According to police reports, this March 13, 2025 traffic stop in rural Sheldon resulted in Gardner actively fighting with deputies, attempting to gain control of a deputy's taser, and causing injuries to both officers. He continued his resistance at the Iroquois County Jail, fighting with corrections staff and refusing booking procedures. Gardner was charged with possession of controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, and attempting to disarm a peace officer. Despite these serious charges, he was mandated to be released under Illinois' SAFE-T Act. This police bodycam footage demonstrates how verbal defiance and resistance can escalate to violent confrontation, resulting in serious criminal charges and injured law enforcement officers.
