On August 7, 2021, Chicago police officers Ella French, Carlos Yanez Jr. and Joshua Blas pulled over an SUV over its license plates in Englewood. Within minutes, Officer French was killed and Officer Yanez was shot five times. For almost five years, court orders kept the body camera footage from the public. On June 17, 2026, Chicago's Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) finally released it. We break down the traffic stop, the gun traced to a straw purchase in Indiana, and the sentences that followed. The moment of the shooting is not shown in this video.
