The Houston Police Department received a report at approximately 3:42 p.m. on October 28 regarding Wilmer Sanchez-Hernandez, who allegedly abducted a woman at gunpoint from an apartment complex. Around 4:12 p.m., officers spotted his vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. However, Sanchez-Hernandez stopped his car several times but drove off each time officers exited their vehicles. During the ensuing pursuit, he fired at officers twice. The chase concluded around 4:40 p.m. when police immobilized his vehicle near the Southwest Freeway. Three officers discharged their weapons, striking Sanchez-Hernandez. Officers were then able to remove both victims from the vehicle, removed the suspect, and applied first aid. The suspect was pronounced dead on the scene. Officials said both of the victims are safe and unharmed, but shaken up, officials said.
