This intense bodycam footage from April 30, 2025, captures a Maricopa police response that quickly spiraled from a car accident into a felony assault. At 5:05 p.m., officers located a vehicle in a ditch and encountered the driver, Kio A. Thomas, who was acting erratically and claiming she was "on fire." Watch the full bodycam breakdown as Kio’s story about her boyfriend driving begins to crumble under investigation. What started as a DUI check turned into a violent confrontation when Thomas refused to comply, eventually kicking officers and hurling derogatory remarks while being restrained. Originally charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on an Officer, Thomas eventually pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated assault. This video is a sobering look at how a single afternoon and poor decisions can lead to a permanent criminal record. Should assault on an officer carry mandatory jail time?
