Public indecency on a sun-drenched beach takes an unexpected turn when video evidence emerges, swiftly altering the course of a routine police response. On June 12, 2025, at approximately 12:36 PM, Patrolwoman Amy Beringer, alongside Sergeant Edward Junquet and Special Officer Ayana Contreras, responded to a report of individuals engaged in sexual activity on a public beach. Upon arrival at the oceanfront location, officers located a male and a female on the sand. The female was initially observed topless, prompting Patrolwoman Beringer to request she cover herself. The situation intensified as Sergeant Junquet made contact with nearby beachgoers who confirmed witnessing the alleged acts. Crucially, one witness provided a video recording of their rendezvous, which Patrolwoman Beringer reviewed on-site. This visual evidence corroborated multiple witness statements, confirming the public lewdness. During the confrontation captured on bodycam, the officer directly accused the suspect of sexual activity, citing the video and multiple witness groups, even as the suspect attempted to deny the full extent of the allegations. Consequently, both individuals were informed they were under arrest for lewdness. They were given the opportunity to dress and collect their personal belongings before being escorted from the beach. Transported separately by Special Officer Contreras and Sergeant Junquet, they were taken to the police department for further processing. Patrolwoman Beringer also collected written statements from additional witnesses. Ultimately, both individuals were issued summonses for Lewdness – Observed by Others (2C:14-4A) and subsequently released, pending their mandatory court appearances. This incident underscores the significant impact of public conduct, the role of witness cooperation, and digital evidence in law enforcement actions. --- Transparency through the lens of the law.
