On September 26, 2024, Pullman Police Officers responded to Walmart, where loss prevention agents were conducting surveillance on a 21-year-old woman who had hidden numerous items on her person. When she exited the store without paying for the merchandise, she was immediately apprehended by Officers Winegardner and Talib. She was placed under arrested and was searched. Because she indicated she was homeless, she was transported to the Pullman Police Station. She was given the opportunity to use her phone, where she was able to come up with an address to use for correspondence from the court. She was then cited and released after being charged with one count of theft (3rd degree). Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
