It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At around 2:50 AM on April 25, 2025, Officer McCarthy from the Lakewood Police spotted a 2013 Toyota Camry run a stop sign at the corner of Coutant Avenue and Davis Court. The officer activated his lights to pull the vehicle over. The driver stopped on Coutant Avenue and rolled down her window. Officer McCarthy approached and asked if she knew why she was pulled over. While speaking, he noticed a smell of alcohol and saw signs of intoxication. He inquired if she had been drinking, and she admitted she had consumed alcohol earlier that evening. Suspicious that she was impaired, the officer asked her to step out for field sobriety tests. The first challenge was for her to recite the alphabet from “A” to “Z.” She struggled and couldn’t complete it properly. Next, Officer Prendergast performed the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During this, the officer observed her eyes lacking smooth movement, nystagmus at maximum side gaze, and nystagmus starting before 45 degrees. Vertical nystagmus was also visible. The second test was the Walk and Turn. Jessica didn’t touch heel-to-toe as instructed and showed poor balance. The final test was the One Leg Stand. She failed to keep her foot raised correctly and kept putting it down during the exercise. Given her traffic violations, the smell of alcohol, her own admission, and poor test results, Officer McCarthy decided to arrest Jessica for Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI). She waived her Miranda rights and answered some questions after being handcuffed. He then drove her to the police station for more processing. Back at the station, the ALS form was read, and she agreed to provide breath samples. Her breath test showed a BAC of 0.211%, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08%. After the test, she received citations for Operating a Vehicle Impaired (4511.19) and failing to stop at a stop sign (331.19). She was released, scheduled to appear in court later.
