A routine disabled vehicle call quickly escalates into a DUI investigation as an officer struggles to conduct field sobriety tests. Around 7:03 PM, Sergeant Matthew Gajewski with the Union Beach Police Department encountered a disabled 2020 Toyota SUV with a flat tire. Upon contacting the driver, identified as Justine Meadow, the officer noticed slurred speech and detected the odor of alcohol, prompting a suspicion of impairment. Despite denying alcohol consumption and refusing to provide her license and registration, Ms. Meadow was offered field sobriety exercises. During the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, she repeatedly failed to follow instructions, moving her head despite the officer's clear directives. Subsequent Walk and Turn and One Leg Stand tests also revealed significant impairment, leading to her arrest for driving under the influence.
