Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: Around 12:42 a.m. on September 14, 2025, Verona Police Officer Shane Daly saw a white 2021 Toyota Corolla pass a vehicle in the right-turn lane on Pompton Avenue. The Corolla then continued south onto Mount Prospect Avenue. Officer Daly turned on his emergency lights, and the driver pulled over near Mount Prospect and Sunset avenues. He approached the car and identified the driver as 18-year-old Maricela Siri-Umana. While speaking with Maricela, Officer Daly saw two open Cutwater containers inside the vehicle and suspected she might be impaired. Maricela said she had consumed the drinks about three hours earlier but denied being under the influence. After Sergeant Robert Maguire arrived, officers asked her to leave the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests. Maricela showed signs of failure during each test. On the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, officers made their observations. During the Walk and Turn test, she failed to touch heel-to-toe on every step and took the wrong number of steps. On the One Leg Stand, she did not raise her foot correctly or count in the proper order. Based on the traffic violations, the open alcohol containers, and her test results, officers arrested Maricela for DWI. She insisted that she was not drunk as officers took her into custody. Her vehicle was impounded for a 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Officer Frank O’Neill then drove her to the nearby Cedar Grove Police Department for processing. At the station, officers read Maricela the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She agreed to provide breath samples. The Alcotest showed a BAC of 0.00%, indicating that she was sober. After processing ended, Maricela was released to her sister. Her sister signed the Potential Liability Warning form on Maricela’s behalf while Maricela awaited court. Sergeant Notte issued Maricela tickets for operating under the influence (39:4-50), reckless driving (39:4-96), careless driving (39:4-97), an improper turn at a traffic control signal (39:4-115), and an open container violation (39:4-51B).
