Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At approximately 3:47 AM on May 14, 2022, Corporal Grant Hofferica from the Wildwood Crest Police Department observed a 2011 Nissan Rogue disregard a red light at the intersection of Rosemary Road and New Jersey Avenue, proceeding to turn west onto Forget-me-not Road. Upon witnessing this, he promptly activated his emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop as the vehicle made a northbound turn onto Park Boulevard. Following the vehicle pulling over, Corporal Hofferica approached the driver, who was later identified as 21-year-old Gianna. Gianna presented identification cards indicating that her grandfather was a retired police officer from Gloucester Township, and that her family friend was a State Trooper, when she was asked for her documents. While speaking with Corporal Hofferica, the officer noticed the smell of alcohol. Gianna admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that evening and mentioned that she was heading home. Corporal Hofferica then returned to his patrol car to inspect her documents, and at that time, another officer arrived to provide assistance. Due to the suspicion of impairment, Corporal Hofferica asked Gianna to step out of the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises. During the assessment, Corporal Hofferica noted several indicators during the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, including the absence of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees. Subsequently, Gianna demonstrated difficulty with the Walk and Turn test, as she failed to consistently touch heel-to-toe on each step and did not execute the correct number of steps. Lastly, during the One Leg Stand test, Gianna displayed difficulty raising her foot as instructed and maintaining her arms at her sides. Based on Gianna's traffic violation, the presence of alcohol odor on her person, and her inability to satisfactorily perform the field sobriety exercises, Corporal Hofferica proceeded to arrest her for driving under the influence. Following protocol, her vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 12-hour hold as mandated by the Law. Thereafter, Corporal Hofferica escorted Gianna to the Wildwood Crest Police Department for further processing. At the police headquarters, Gianna underwent a reading of the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators and consented to providing breath samples for testing. The results from her Alcotest revealed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.11%, surpassing the legal limit of 0.08%. Following the completion of the processing procedures, Gianna was released into the custody of a responsible adult after said adult signed the Potential Liability Warning Form on her behalf. Furthermore, Gianna was issued summonses for the offenses of operating under the influence, careless driving, and failure to observe a traffic control device. According to court records dated August 9, 2022, Gianna was found to have operated a vehicle under the influence, resulting in a guilty verdict. Consequently, Gianna was mandated to fulfill a 12-hour sentence at an intoxicated driver resource center, utilize an ignition interlock device for a duration of 3 months, and settle a total of $640 in fines. Two other citations were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
