On August 5, 2024, officers with the Verona Police Department responded to a call for a 37-year-old male knocking on his door and attempting to gain entry to his residence. Upon arrival, officers contacted the suspect, later identified as Donovan, who was reportedly locked out of his residence by his child’s mother. Donovan repeatedly advised the officers that he is on the lease, and she has no right to lock him out. According to tenantresourcecenter.com, in the state of Wisconsin, only a judge can decide a tenant must leave the property. Despite this, Donovan ends up receiving criminal charges from this encounter. The woman involved, Martha, was redacted from the video. We were not given an explanation, but we believe that the Verona Police Department considers her to be the victim. In the end, Donovan was cited for possession of marijuana and given a notice to appear for disorderly conduct. Do you think these charges were fair?
