Joiner, Arkansas — May 2, 2026 An Arkansas State Trooper attempting to stop a speeding Dodge Charger on Highway 118 near Joiner, Mississippi County, ended up in a dangerous pursuit after the driver refused to pull over. According to investigators, the Charger was traveling approximately 80 mph in a 55 mph zone when the trooper initiated the traffic stop. The driver, later identified as 23-year-old Thalia Jones, allegedly accelerated away instead of stopping. The pursuit continued through the rural area, with authorities reporting that Jones crossed into oncoming traffic while attempting to evade the trooper. Troopers ultimately performed a PIT maneuver in an effort to bring the fleeing vehicle to a stop. The Charger lost control, struck objects near the roadside and overturned in a field. Then came a startling discovery. As troopers secured the crash scene, a 3-year-old child emerged from the overturned vehicle and ran toward the officers. The child was reportedly uninjured and was evaluated by emergency responders along with Jones before being released to another adult at the scene. The trooper expressed his concern after realizing that a young child had been inside the vehicle during the pursuit. Jones was charged with speeding, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, child endangerment, and unauthorized use of another person’s vehicle to commit a crime. Authorities said the vehicle belonged to Jones' boyfriend, and the incident was also reported to the Child Abuse Hotline.
