On September 3, 2026, a 71-year-old woman identified as Linda Jean Croteau entered the Port Orange Police Department headquarters in Florida with a handgun. According to police, Croteau pointed the weapon at employees and fired toward an evidence room where staff members were present. She then exited the lobby with the gun and moved toward the parking lot, where civilians and responding officers were located. Officers repeatedly ordered her to drop the weapon before opening fire. When Croteau dropped the gun, officers stopped shooting and continued issuing commands. However, the footage shows her reaching back toward the weapon, prompting officers to fire again. Officers immediately moved in to provide medical assistance, and Croteau was transported to a hospital. Police confirmed that three officers were involved in the shooting and that no officers were injured. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating the incident. In this video, we examine the surveillance and bodycam footage, break down the critical moments, and take a closer look at the sequence of events between the two rounds of gunfire. ⚠️ Warning: This video contains real police bodycam footage and may include scenes that some viewers find disturbing. Viewer discretion is advised. This video aims to highlight real-world police response tactics, officer decision-making under pressure, and the importance of de-escalation and communication during high-risk encounters.
