On October 26, 2024, Santa Fe Police Officer Trujillo stopped a suspicious vehicle that only had one working headlight. Callers had reported to the police that the occupants of the vehicle were flashing a flashlight inside other vehicles. The vehicle was being driven by an 18-year-old woman. The police report indicates that Officer Trujillo noticed watery eyes and detected slurred speech coming from the woman. He asked her if she had consumed any alcohol and she admitted to drinking one Smirnoff drink earlier in the evening. As a result, she was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests. During the tests, she also admitted to smoking cannabis 30 minutes prior. As a result, she was placed under arrest for Driving While Under the Influence (DWI). That is when the woman became frantic and hysterical and it was revealed that she had been arrested for another DWI only 41 days prior. She refused to provide breath samples, which increased her charge to Aggravated DWI. Her case was initially dismissed, but it was refiled in 2025. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
