It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On September 29, 2024, around 7:15 p.m., Officer Christopher Gallman from the Woodstock Police Department got a call about a Ford pickup truck weaving all over the road. He spotted a red 2018 Ford F-150 that fit the description on South Eastwood Drive, right by Route 14, and started tailing it. The driver kept swerving between lanes. He pulled her over on Route 14. When he approached, the driver said her name was Erin. Two kids sat in the back seat. Erin explained she was just driving home. As they talked, Officer Gallman noticed her slurred words and clumsy moves, signs of trouble. He asked her to do a quick finger test first. Then she stepped out for full sobriety checks. The first one was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Erin couldn't track smoothly. Her eyes jerked hard at the edges and started jerking too soon, before 45 degrees. Next came the Walk and Turn. She missed heel-to-toe steps and miscounted her turns. For the One Leg Stand, she dropped her foot wrong and put it down early. Her wild driving, clear signs of being impaired, and failed tests led Officer Gallman to arrest Erin for DUI. Before cuffs went on, he let her call someone to pick up the kids. Then he secured her, put her in his cruiser, and took her to the station. A quick search of her truck turned up an open bottle of Barefoot wine. A travel mug in the console smelled like booze. At the Woodstock Police Department, Erin blew into the breathalyzer. Her blood alcohol level hit 0.183%, way over the 0.08% limit—more than twice as high. Prosecutors hit her with these charges: Driving under the influence from alcohol (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2)) Driving with BAC of 0.08 or higher (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(1)) Improper lane use (625 ILCS 5/11-709(a)) Open alcohol in the vehicle while driving (625 ILCS 5/11-502(a)) She also faced a child endangerment charge (720 ILCS 5/12C-5(A)(1)). Still out of it, Erin went to the hospital for checks. They let her go, but her court date loomed.
