A high-speed traffic stop quickly escalates into a complex situation for officers investigating suspected impairment. On May 8, 2022, a patrolman observed a vehicle traveling 85 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, prompting another officer to initiate a stop. Upon approach, officers detected the odor of alcohol, and the driver admitted to consuming wine while also revealing she was pregnant. Consenting to standardized field sobriety exercises, the driver exhibited multiple indicators of impairment, including failing to walk heel-to-toe and struggling with balance during the Walk and Turn test. Based on these observations, she was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
