He quickly turned around and kept an eye on the vehicle’s driving as it headed south. The driver stopped in the middle of the street, prompting the officer to activate his emergency lights and pull the car over. Using his patrol car, Officer Phillips first watched the driver. He noticed the driver reach for a cup with a clear liquid inside and move it near the door. The officer then knocked on the window and talked to the driver, identified as Amber, a 25-year-old woman. Amber said she was on her way home after leaving Buffalo Wild Wings in South Elgin. She looked impaired and admitted to drinking two tall beers earlier that night. The officer asked Amber to recite part of the alphabet from F to S, but she couldn't. She also struggled to count backwards from 57 to 36. More officers arrived, and Amber was asked to get out of the vehicle to perform field sobriety tests. The first test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN). Officer Phillips saw her eyes jerk involuntarily and fail to follow smoothly. The nystagmus appeared early, at less than 45 degrees. The second test was the Walk and Turn. Amber didn't touch heel to toe, made improper turns, and missed steps. The last test was the One Leg Stand, and she couldn’t do it properly. Because of her dangerous driving, her drinking, and her poor performance on the tests, Officer Phillips arrested Amber for driving under the influence. She was handcuffed, then placed in the patrol car and driven to the police station by Officer Nicholson. Officer Fawkes checked her car and found an open, quarter-empty 1.75-liter bottle of Vitali vodka, 80 proof. At the police station, Amber agreed to give breath samples. Her blood alcohol content was 0.324 percent, more than four times the legal limit of 0.08 percent. After processing her, police released Amber to her father as she waited for her court date. Amber was charged with several crimes: -Driving under the influence with a BAC of 0.08 or more (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(1)) -Driving under the influence of alcohol (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2)) -Improper lane use (625 ILCS 5/11-709(a)) 4:20 oh sorry, I wasn't listening.. what was that? 5:05 Math is my favorite 11:44 No girl it was traumatizing when I got the phone call ...
