Other Video - https://youtu.be/m5svpZvz8Uc On July 14, 2025, around 10:38 PM, Officer Mark Chanley of the Piscataway Township Police Department was on a meal break at Taco Bell in South Plainfield when he noticed a white 2021 Jeep striking a curb and a sign before attempting to flee the scene. Officer Chanley pursued the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in the Staples parking lot at 7000 Hadley Road, where the driver parked next to a handicapped space. The driver, Sandy Perez, a Middlesex County Sheriff's Officer, admitted to having had a few drinks that evening and was heading to a hotel after an argument with a significant other. Due to visible damage to her Jeep and suspicion of impairment, officers asked Sandy to perform field sobriety tests, which she refused. She was then placed under arrest for DWI. During the arrest: Her Sheriff’s vest was removed by officers. She confirmed her firearm was secured in the back of her vehicle. A search of her Jeep revealed 2 open containers of Jameson whiskey. Her vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 12-hour period pursuant to John’s Law. Citations issued by Officer Polizzano included: Operating under the influence (39:4-50) Reckless driving (39:4-96) Leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage (39:4-129B) Failure to report an accident (39:4-130) Consuming an alcoholic beverage inside a motor vehicle (39:4-51A) Open container (39:4-51B) As of October 5, 2025, Sandy Perez’s case remains pending in South Plainfield Municipal Court.
