On March 31, 2024, Highlands Police Sgt. McGrath observed a Jeep with a reflective cover that was obstructing the vehicle's license plate. He initiated a traffic stop and when he made contact with the 23-year-old driver, he recognized her from an earlier call, where her dog had allegedly bitten her boyfriend's face. During that call, the boyfriend told police that the woman was intoxicated and she was warned not to drive. The police report indicates that Sgt. McGrath observed the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. The woman was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests and was eventually arrested for DUI. At the police station, she submitted to an evidential breath test and the result was 0.137% BAC. She was charged with Driving While Under the Influence of Liquor, Reckless Driving, and having an Obstructed License Plate. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
