On February 5, 2023, the Mount Vernon Police Department received numerous 911 calls about a hit and run traffic collision. All of the officers were at the police station at the time, so while some units responded to the crash site, one officer stayed behind and reviewed the city camera system. He was able to locate a light color SUV with substantial front-end damage driving near the scene of the accident. Officers were able to locate the vehicle involved in the hit and run at a nearby apartment building. Soon, thereafter, the owner of the vehicle, a 22-year-old woman, came outside and confessed that she had been drinking and was the driver of the vehicle when the accident occurred. She was placed under arrest for hit-and-run and was transported to the police station, where she submitted to an evidential breath test (EBT). The result of the EBT was 0.16% BAC. She was charged with DUI, Hit & Run (4 counts), driving without a license, and driving without insurance.
