On July 19, 2024, an employee of the Target store located at 209 Stafford Park Boulevard reported 7 instances of alleged shoplifting involving a female to the Stafford Township Police Department. After their investigation, the officers identified the woman as 26-year-old Maria. On July 27, 2024 around 11:20 AM, Officer Nicholas Fabrizzio arrived at the residence of Maria Guarini and informed her that she would be placed under arrest for shoplifting. Maria was escorted to the patrol car, placed inside, and handcuffed in front. She was then transported to the Stafford Township Police Department for further processing. Their investigation revealed that Maria had allegedly shoplifted $102.68 worth on February 21, 2024, $57.55 worth on March 9, 2024, $48.17 on March 13, 2024, $92.26 worth on May 2, 2024, $46.73 on May 27, 2024, $80.77 worth on June 6, 2024, and $44.99 on June 20, 2024. The total value of the items she had allegedly shoplifted from Target were calculated to be $473.15. At the station, Maria was photographed, fingerprinted, and placed inside a cell while the officer completed his paperwork. She was charged with 7 counts of shoplifting under 2C:20-11B(1) since the total value of the items she allegedly stole each time were less than $200. After Officer Fabrizzio completed his paperwork, he transported Maria back to her residence and released her pending her court appearance on August 7, 2024. ---------------------------------------------- Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting this channel (email us for more information). (P.L. 2024, c.16). Defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty. The New Jersey Supreme Court has previously affirmed in Salzano v. North Jersey Media Group, 993 A.2d 778 (2010) that “The fair-report privilege reflects the judgment that the need, in a self-governing society, for free-flowing information about matters of public interest outweighs concerns over the uncompensated injury to a person's reputation.” This video advances a compelling public interest. The summary of events was based on records that are “open to public view through open access to public records” as defined in the Salzano case. In Ramos v. Flowers, 429 N.J. Super. 13, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court has also affirmed the right to film law enforcement interactions.
