In the early morning hours, officers were alerted to a black Hyundai Palisade that had previously fled from neighboring jurisdictions. A pursuit was initiated when the vehicle fled a traffic stop, reaching extreme speeds of approximately 110 mph in a 30 mph residential zone. Assisting officers successfully deployed stop sticks, deflating the front passenger tire, but the driver continued fleeing until crashing into a guard rail and a street sign. After the vehicle became disabled, the driver and two passengers fled on foot. A foot chase ensued through residential backyards, culminating in the driver punching a pursuing officer in the face and causing lacerations. The driver was eventually subdued following a successful taser deployment by a county deputy. A search of the area led officers to a nearby residence where the two fleeing passengers were found hiding and subsequently arrested. The primary suspect was charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated fleeing, resisting arrest, underage consumption of alcohol, and excessive speeding. The vehicle involved was towed and held for asset forfeiture. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
