The initial contact with the driver revealed immediate indicators of impairment, including incoherent responses and a discernible odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle. To assess the driver's sobriety, the officer administered a series of field sobriety exercises. The Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test showed clear signs of involuntary eye movement. During the One Leg Stand, the driver struggled significantly with balance and failed to follow instructions, even restarting the counting sequence. The Walk and Turn test similarly demonstrated an inability to maintain a straight line or proper foot placement. A final instruction to recite the alphabet was met with the driver singing and dancing, directly contrary to the given directions. These consistent failures across multiple tests provided strong grounds for suspicion. Consequently, the individual was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Following the roadside detention, the driver was transported to a facility where an Alcotest was administered. The results confirmed a blood alcohol content of 0.16%, which is double the legal limit of 0.08%.
