On March 17th, 2025, Bryant police stop a vehicle and find Karen Vandiver in the passenger seat, barely able to stay upright. She tells officers her heart hurts, says she needs the hospital, and keeps asking where her husband is. Then officers tell her Steven Vandiver is already in custody. Karen says he was trying to get her help. Police say he had other choices. According to officers on scene, Steven ran a red light, nearly caused a crash, and reached close to 80 mph instead of stopping, explaining the emergency, and calling 911. EMS was called for Karen, but Steven’s driving turned the situation into a felony fleeing case. Court records later show Steven Michael Vandiver pleaded guilty to fleeing by vehicle and possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance under four ounces. He received 12 months probation under Arkansas Act 346. No jail time. Case closed. A medical emergency may have started the panic. The chase is what followed him into court.
