On March 31, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Police Officers Daniel Barron and Jessica Pizanie responded to the Hoboken Shelter, 300 Bloomfield St., on reports of two females fighting. Upon their arrival they saw a woman, later identified as 29-year-old Crystal Bent of Hoboken, kicking and screaming while being held on the ground by a shelter employee. Once she was picked up off the ground, she began swinging her arms and walking toward the officers and she refused to stop when advised to do so. She continued to scream and swing her arms, eventually contacting officers, when they placed her under arrest. While trying to handcuff her, Bent made her arms tense to avoid arrest. Police Officers Anthony Hochstadter, Mark Mooreman, and Damien Bates arrived on the scene to assist. Once outside the shelter, Bates kicked one of the officers in the leg. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with disorderly, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest. She was released with a summons and court date.
