[Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only] Whitefish Island, Ontario, Canada — On February 7, 2026, just after 4:00 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a rescue operation after a 40-year-old wildlife photographer became lost and trapped in deep snow. The woman had veered off the trail to follow animal tracks in extreme temperatures of -13°C (8°F), eventually becoming immobilized. The video begins with the 911 audio from a concerned friend who alerted authorities to her location. Sault Ste. Marie OPP officers located the woman roughly half a kilometre from the trail. She had been exposed to the elements for nearly four hours and had lost a boot and her gloves. Bodycam footage captures officers rendering immediate aid, dressing her in a toque and spare gloves to combat advancing hypothermia. Because the waist-deep snow made walking out impossible, police requested emergency backup. Sault Fire Services arrived shortly after with a specialized rescue sled. Firefighters loaded the woman onto the sleigh, wrapped her in blankets, and pulled her through the heavy snow drift to safety. She was transported by paramedics to a local hospital, where she was treated for severe hypothermia and frostbite.
