On May 9, 2023, in Port Orange, Florida, a smoke shop employee called police about a man who kept coming in and out of the store and making her and her customers uncomfortable. It was the first time she had ever called 911. An officer arrived and issued a formal trespass warning. Instead of leaving, the man argued, threatened the officer, and then threw a piece of his lunch, striking the officer in the chest. He was arrested for battery on a law enforcement officer. Reported charges: Battery on a law enforcement officer (Florida Statute 784.07) and trespass after warning (Florida Statute 810.08).
