East Lansing, Michigan — What began as a disturbance call at a local pizza restaurant escalated into a violent chain of events that ended in a fatal police shooting on April 15, 2026. According to authorities, employees at a Marco's Pizza contacted 911 after a man later identified as 21-year-old Isaiah Kirby entered the restaurant and allegedly pretended to be a delivery driver. Workers reported that Kirby moved into an employee-only area, opened a customer's pizza, and began eating it without permission. Staff members repeatedly instructed Kirby to leave the business. Employees later told investigators that the encounter became increasingly tense, with Kirby allegedly confronting one worker face-to-face before finally exiting the restaurant. Concerned that the situation might continue to escalate, employees contacted police. While dispatchers were still receiving information about the disturbance, a separate and far more serious incident unfolded nearby. Across the street, 63-year-old attorney Douglas Mielock had just finished a visit to a local barber shop and was entering his vehicle when he was allegedly attacked. Witnesses described a struggle in a nearby parking lot and reported seeing a man armed with a knife. Multiple callers told emergency dispatchers that the suspect was covered in blood and pacing in the area following the assault. Mielock suffered critical injuries, and bystanders rushed to assist him while awaiting emergency responders. Officers initially responding to the restaurant call were quickly advised that the incident had escalated into a stabbing involving an armed suspect. Shortly afterward, police located Kirby running along Abbot Road while allegedly carrying a knife. Body camera and dash camera footage released by investigators show officers stopping their patrol vehicles and issuing repeated commands for Kirby to stop and drop the weapon. Authorities say those commands were not followed. Moments later, officers fired their weapons. Video evidence shows multiple rounds of gunfire being discharged during the encounter over a period of approximately 20 seconds. Investigators stated that Kirby remained in possession of the knife during portions of the confrontation, even after being struck by gunfire. Once the scene was secured, officers approached with a ballistic shield, removed the knife, and began providing emergency medical care. Kirby was pronounced dead at the scene. Mielock was transported for emergency treatment and underwent surgery before spending several days in intensive care. He ultimately survived the attack. The incident remains the subject of an ongoing investigation. Disclaimer: This video is presented for educational, documentary, and informational purposes only.
