On May 30, 2022, at about 2:06 AM, officers in Minden, Louisiana were called to an apartment complex and found a man standing at the top of an exterior staircase. In the first eleven seconds of the first body camera recording he is told five times to walk down the steps. He does not. He stands there looking at his phone while officers wait at the bottom. What brought them there had happened earlier the same day. Officers say the man had threatened the life of a woman who lived at the complex. She left, and she reported that three shots were fired, though she could not say whether they were aimed at her or into the air. She filed a report and was told to go home and not let him in. About two hours later he was standing outside her door. The standoff ends when the officers start up the stairs. He says he is coming, takes about three steps down, and then, by their own account minutes afterward, his right hand goes behind his back. They go hands on. One officer calls out that there is a gun and says he felt the firearm while reaching for the man's hands. It comes free during the struggle on the ground.
