On January 22, 2026, San Diego Police Department officers tracked a suspect from Euclid and Imperial Avenue, deploying spike strips in a desperate attempt to end the chase. The pursuit took a violent turn when the suspect, 39-year-old Edwaun Walter Thames, crashed into a light pole near Jamacha Road. The falling pole crushed an SDPD patrol vehicle, injuring an officer and leaving the cruiser with major damage. As Thames exited the vehicle near what appeared to be a firearm, officers gave multiple commands. When the suspect reached for the object, Officer Henry Ingram Jr. discharged his weapon. This video breaks down the timeline of the pursuit, the crash, and the subsequent investigation by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit.
