On April 20, 2024 around 1:09 AM, Patrolman Salvatore Mannino with the Lumberton Township Police Department observed a silver 2011 Ford Escape speeding in the vicinity of Allspice Way and Eayrestown Road. He activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over in the vicinity of Bobbys Run Boulevard and Westminster Drive. He exited his patrol car and made contact with the driver, who was eventually identified as 24-year-old Nadia Lopez. Nadia offered conflicting accounts about where she was coming from and where she was headed. As he was speaking with Nadia, he detected the odor of alcohol and observed an open container of Tequila on the front passenger floor. Based his suspicion of impairment, Nadia was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises after Sergeant Christy Saulle and Patrolman Devon Ginn arrived on scene to assist. Nadia’s poor performance on the field sobriety exercises confirmed the officers’ suspicions of impairment. Based on her traffic violations, the odor of alcohol, the open bottle of Tequila inside her vehicle, and her inability to satisfactorily perform the field sobriety exercises, Nadia was placed under arrest for operating under the influence. She was handcuffed and placed inside the patrol car. Her vehicle was impounded by for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Nadia was transported to the Lumberton Township Police Department for further processing. After they arrived at the station, she told the officers that she had recently had a miscarriage. The Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators was read to her, and she eventually agreed to submit breath samples despite initially hesitating. Her first Alcotest results indicated a BAC level of EC 0.240% and IR 0.241%, while her second breath test results indicated a BAC level of EC 0.235% and IR 0.234%. Once they finished processing her, Nadia was eventually released to her neighbor Kelsie Kahn pending her court appearance after she signed the Potential Liability Warning form on Nadia’s behalf. Nadia was issued the following citations: -Operating under the influence (39:4-50) -DWI within 1000 feet of school property (39:4-50(G)(1)) -Exceeding the 35 MPH speed limit in a suburban business or residential district (39:4-98B(2)) -Reckless driving (39:4-96) -Careless driving (39:4-97) -Delaying traffic (39:4-56) -Traffic on marked lanes (39:4-88) -Failure to possess driver insurance card (39:3-29C) -Open container (39:4-51B) Court records indicate that on November 26, 2024, Nadia was convicted of operating under the influence. However, she did plead guilty to careless driving and reckless driving. As a result of her conviction, Nadia had to use an ignition interlock device for 7 months, spend 12 hours at an intoxicated driver resource center, and pay a total of $583 in fines. The other 8 citations were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. Nadia was later arrested again on charges of aggravated assault (2C:12-1B(13)) and simple assault (2C:12-1A(1)) in Willingboro Township, New Jersey on November 27, 2025. ------------------------------------------ Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting this channel (email us for more information). (P.L. 2024, c.16). Defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty. The New Jersey Supreme Court has previously affirmed in Salzano v. Central Jersey Media Group, 993 A.2d 778 (2010) that “The fair-report privilege reflects the judgment that the need, in a self-governing society, for free-flowing information about matters of public interest outweighs concerns over the uncompensated injury to a person's reputation.” This video advances a compelling public interest. The summary of events was based on records that are “open to public view through open access to public records” as defined in the Salzano case. In Ramos v. Flowers, 429 N.J. Super. 13, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court has also affirmed the right to film law enforcement interactions.
