A witness report of an erratic driver leads to a late-night traffic stop and a swift decision regarding impairment. On September 10, 2022, around 11:37 PM, police responded to a witness report of an erratic driver who had damaged a sign. Officers located the black 2016 Jeep and initiated a stop. Upon contact with the 31-year-old female driver, an officer observed immediate indicators of impairment and began a Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. However, due to concerns for the driver's safety and his initial observations of her demeanor, including a "fat tire" and the car's console contents, the officer quickly terminated the field sobriety exercises, opting for immediate arrest for driving under the influence. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed an open container of alcohol, and the car was impounded for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John's Law. The driver was processed and issued multiple summonses. Court records indicate that on December 14, 2022, she pleaded guilty to operating under the influence and unsafe operation of a vehicle, resulting in significant fines, a 3-month ignition interlock device requirement, and 12 hours at an intoxicated driver resource center. --- Transparency through the lens of the law.
