In Harris County, Houston, Texas, a self-proclaimed sovereignty citizen who refused to comply with US law was shot by police. The incident began when an officer noticed an expired vehicle registration and a broken taillight. The driver, Patrick Hurst, presented a piece of paper claiming he was a sovereignty citizen and not subject to US laws. This led to a pursuit, during which Hurst allegedly fired shots. Police returned fire, hitting Hurst and also striking a nearby school bus and an innocent bystander. Hurst was pronounced dead at the scene.
