Police bodycam footage shows an 18-year-old who had just aged out of foster care refusing to get out of a state vehicle in Las Cruces, New Mexico. This real body cam video captures the full police interaction, a caseworker with nowhere left to drop her off, an officer asking dozens of times, and a resisting arrest call that ends in a spit mask and three criminal charges. On October 4, 2023, Daijah Cano, 18, sat in a CYFD state van in Las Cruces. The woman driving was her caseworker of many years, spending her own time trying to find her somewhere to stay. The friend's place had just fallen through, and the only offer left was a drop-off at McDonald's. Officer Udero asked her to step out again and again, by his report, she got out and sat back down at least eight times. What followed was a struggle, a head injury, a WRAP restraint, and a hospital trip that ended in a battery charge after she spit on an officer. A supervisor's supplement puts it plainly: she had aged out of state custody and was in a "high housing crisis." 0:00 The call 1:45 "How old are you?" 3:20 The last chance 5:40 Hands on 8:15 The wrap restraint 12:40 At the hospital 17:00 Three charges Charges are allegations; all parties are presumed innocent.
