A schoolyard dispute over infidelity escalates dramatically, leading to an arrest and a complex legal battle over conflicting accounts. The incident began around 9:00 AM when officers at a high school were alerted to an altercation in the parking lot between two students. Patrolman Eichen observed one student, identified as an 18-year-old female, yelling accusations of infidelity, throwing a phone, and striking the other individual multiple times in the back of the head. Upon speaking with her, she admitted to being profoundly upset due to alleged cheating by the other party with her best friend and others. The situation further escalated as school principal arrived, and later, additional patrol units responded to assist. Despite the male student's reluctance to press charges or pursue a restraining order, officers determined an arrest was necessary given the domestic nature of the observed assault and the clear surveillance footage corroborating the initial physical interaction. The female student was informed of her impending arrest while seated in the Guidance office. During this time, she vehemently claimed the other individual had pulled her hair, an account which officers stated was not supported by the available security camera footage. Following this, she was calmly walked to a patrol car, where she was handcuffed and transported to the police department for further processing. After being evaluated by first responders and processed, she was charged with Simple Assault under 2C:12-1A(1) and subsequently released pending a future court appearance. Her case has since been transferred to a different municipal court, possibly to avoid a conflict of interest, with legal proceedings still pending as of August 2024. --- Transparency through the lens of the law.
