Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: On April 2, 2024 at approximately 12:10 a.m., Patrolman Mark McCoy of the Princeton Police Department observed a 1994 Mercedes S32 traveling 53 MPH in a 35 MPH zone on Mercer Street. He initiated a traffic stop and pulled the vehicle over on Mercer Street near Olden Lane. He then made contact with the driver, who was identified as 22-year-old Edward. When Edward was asked for his identification, he stated to Patrolman McCoy that he did not have his driver's license with him. While speaking with Edward, he detected the odor of alcohol and other signs of impairment. Edward was asked to write down his details on a piece of paper and he was able to produce a copy of the vehicle registration document. Edward denied having consumed alcohol, but he seemed to have difficulty reciting the alphabet or counting backwards. Patrolman McCoy returned to his patrol car to verify his statements and requested another officer to come to the scene and assist in performing sobriety exercises. When Corporal Craig Humble arrived on the scene, Edward was asked to exit the vehicle and perform sobriety exercises. Corporal Humble began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test and later told Patrolman McCoy that he had identified 6/6 indicators of impairment. The second exercise was the "walk and turn" test. During the Walk and Turn test, Edward did not touch his heel with each step and did not keep his arms at his side. In the final exercise, the One Leg Stand test, he failed to lift his foot properly and showed balance problems. Due to his excessive speed, his odor of alcohol, and his inability to satisfactorily complete field sobriety exercises, Edward was arrested for DUI. His vehicle had to be impounded for 12 hours under John’s Law, and Patrolman Rund remained at the scene until the vehicle was removed by Stewart’s Towing. He was taken to the Princeton Police Department for further processing. At the Princeton Police Station, Corporal Humble read him the standard statement for motor vehicle drivers, and he eventually agreed to provide breath samples after initially giving an equivocal answer. The result of the Alcotest showed a BAC of 0.137%, which was above the legal limit of 0.08%. After his processing, he was placed in the custody of his father pending his court appearance, who signed the potential liability warning form for Edward. Patrolman McCoy issued the following citations to Edward: Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Speeding, and Failure to Have a Driver's License.
