Officers Lampros Nicos and Arthur Ohlsen were sent. They went to an apartment complex. Patrolman Nicos spoke to a woman. She drove a blue Honda coupe. She said a Volkswagen hit her. This happened on the ramp to Littleton Road. The other car didn't stop. She followed it home. Her apartment was in Parsippany. Patrolman Nicos found the other driver. She had just gotten out of her car. Her name was Fiorella Vidal, age 28. He asked where she came from. He asked if she hit the Honda. Fiorella said she was coming from Jersey City. She could not remember hitting the car. She also said she drank alcohol. Her Volkswagen's bumper had fresh damage. It matched the Honda. State Police were contacted for the accident report. They handle highway incidents. They did not come to the scene. Parsippany Police then wrote their own report. Patrolman Ohlsen approached Fiorella. He smelled alcohol. He saw other signs of being drunk. He asked her to do some tests. The first test was the HGN. This checks eye movements. Patrolman Ohlsen saw her eyes didn't move smoothly. They jerked and held still. Her eyes also started jerking too soon. The next test was the Walk and Turn. Fiorella did not step heel-to-toe. She turned the wrong way. She took the wrong number of steps. The last test was the One Leg Stand. She could not lift her foot correctly. She put it down too soon. Fiorella was arrested for drunk driving. This was due to the crash. She smelled of alcohol. She admitted to drinking. She failed the sobriety tests. Her car was taken. It had to be held for 12 hours. This was per John's Law. At the station, she was read a statement. She agreed to a breath test. The Alcotest showed her BAC was 0.11%. This is higher than the 0.08% legal limit. A friend named Kenneth picked her up. He signed papers for her. Fiorella got two tickets. One was for driving under the influence. The other was for reckless driving. Court records show the DUI charge was dropped.
