It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: It was January 28, 2024, around 5:18 PM. Officer Cordova saw a car driving strangely. The car, a 2023 Acura MDX, was going west on W Deerpath Road. It was near Golf Lane. Officer Cordova followed the Acura. The driver started swerving. The car drifted between lanes. Cordova then pulled the Acura over. He stopped it on Route 41 south. This was just north of Route 60. He approached a woman named Becki. He told her the reason for the stop. She had been swerving. Becki claimed she wasn't speeding. The officer clarified he wasn't stopping her for speeding. Soon, Officer Chernikovich arrived to help. They talked her into doing sobriety tests. At first, Becki said she hadn't had any alcohol. Later, she said she had one glass of wine. This was at a friend's house in Lake Bluff. Officer Cordova started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. She watched Becki's eyes for clues. Cordova noticed a lack of smooth pursuit. She saw distinct nystagmus at maximum deviation. But, she didn't see it start before 45 degrees. Vertical nystagmus wasn't there. Next was the Walk and Turn test. Becki didn't hold her arms right. She turned the wrong way and missed steps. Finally, Becki tried the One Leg Stand test. She couldn't raise her foot well. Becki didn't count right and lost her balance. Becki's field sobriety test ended. Then Officer Chernikovich offered her a breath test. She said no. Becki drove poorly. She also admitted to drinking. Plus, she failed the sobriety tests. Officer Cordova arrested Becki for driving under the influence. They put her in handcuffs. Next, they put her in the patrol car. Finally, the police towed her car. Becki was taken to the Lake Forest police station. She would face more processing there. At first, she did not want to take the breath test. But Becki finally agreed to give breath samples. The Lake Forest breathalyzer was broken. So, they drove her to Lake Bluff. Police watched her for 20 minutes. Then, Becki took the breath test. Her BAC was 0.141%. That was almost twice the legal limit of 0.08%. After the breath test, officers took Becki to the Lake Forest police station. There, they finished her paperwork. She had her picture taken and fingerprints scanned. Finally, Becki was released to her husband. She must appear in court at the Lake County Courthouse on February 23, 2024. Police cited Becki for driving under the influence. She got two DUI tickets (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(1)).
