On May 26, 2025, at approximately 1:55 PM in Sun Valley, Los Angeles, an LAPD cruiser responding to a domestic violence call at high speed slammed into a silver Honda Accord making a left turn at the intersection of Cleon Avenue and Saticoy Street. Behind the wheel of the civilian vehicle was 70-year-old Jose Hernandez, a Los Angeles resident, husband, father, and grandfather. This shocking collision was captured from two angles — the cruiser’s dashcam and both officers’ bodycams — showing the raw and violent impact in real time. Tragically, Jose Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene by LAFD paramedics. The crash raises serious questions about officer conduct during emergency response. The LAPD's Multi-Disciplinary Collision Investigation Team was activated to review the footage and determine the sequence of events, including whether the officers’ speed was justified. While both LAPD officers involved were injured, they were treated and released later that day. As of now, no public disciplinary action has been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
