On April 15, 2023, the Florida Highway Patrol was contacted by an outside agency to assist with a traffic stop involving a vehicle suspected of trafficking in the Brevard area. At around 3:13 pm, an FHP trooper observed the vehicle passing their stationary position at a speed of 80 mph in a 70 mph zone and activated their radar, confirming the speed. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but the black Hyundai sped off in a reckless manner, weaving through traffic and at times traveling down the emergency shoulder.
