Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At around 2:32 AM on May 18, 2023, Deputy Thomas Newton III from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of disorderly conduct at the intersection of North Keene Road and Coastal Place in Dunedin, Florida. The caller told dispatch that a woman in a black Dodge Charger was threatening to run him over. When Deputy Newton arrived, he spotted a 2022 Dodge Charger that matched the description parked on the shoulder, with a visibly impaired woman in the driver’s seat. The driver was identified as 35-year-old Melissa Stachelsky. As Deputy Newton approached her vehicle, Melissa showed him her badge, claiming to be a corrections officer with the State of Florida. Melissa informed the Deputy that she had come from another town in Florida and that the male complainant was visiting from New York. She mentioned that they had an argument before the police arrived. The male complainant revealed to the Deputy that they had been in a romantic relationship before. No extra charges came out of this situation. However, Deputy Newton suspected that Melissa might be impaired, so he asked her to step out of the vehicle for some field sobriety tests. After sharing some more details with the Deputy, Melissa agreed to take the tests. The first test conducted was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Deputy Newton noted that there was no smooth following of the eyes, and he observed clear signs of nystagmus when the eyes were turned to the side, happening even before reaching a 45-degree angle. Next, they moved on to the Walk and Turn test. Melissa managed to take 9 steps as she was told, but she relied on her arms for balance and didn’t execute the turn correctly. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test, where Melissa struggled to lift her foot properly and showed signs of losing her balance. After admitting to drinking alcohol a few hours earlier and struggling with the field sobriety tests, Deputy Newton concluded that Melissa was under the influence and arrested her for DUI. Once she was in custody, deputies searched her car and found a prescription medication inside. Clearwater Towing impounded her vehicle, and Melissa was taken to the Central Breath Testing facility at the Pinellas County Jail without any issues. Melissa agreed to take breath tests at the Pinellas County Jail. Deputy Danielle Zsido used the Intoxilyzer machine, which showed Melissa's blood alcohol concentration was 0.127%, above the legal limit of 0.08%. After a required holding time at the jail, she was released and is set to appear in court after Deputy Newton gave her a citation for driving under the influence.
