A concerned school staff member's tip about a potentially impaired teacher leads to a critical traffic stop and a shocking discovery of extreme intoxication. On April 22, 2022, an officer on extra duty was alerted by school staff to a driver suspected of impairment. The officer located the silver 2015 Hyundai and initiated a traffic stop, making contact with the driver who claimed to be having a panic attack, yet displayed clear indicators of impairment. Due to being on an extra duty assignment, backup officers arrived to take over the specialized DUI investigation. The driver initially resisted exiting the vehicle for field sobriety exercises but eventually complied. During the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand tests, the driver exhibited significant signs of impairment, failing to perform the exercises adequately. Based on the erratic driving and inability to complete the tests, the driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed six bottles of vodka. Though initially reluctant, the driver later provided breath samples at the police department, which registered blood alcohol content levels of 0.311% and 0.305%, nearly four times the legal limit.
