It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: It was just after 1:30 AM on September 1, 2024. Officer Nathan Padrta saw a Nissan Frontier with broken brake lights. The truck was heading north on NE Monroe Street. He turned on his lights to pull it over. The driver stopped near Pullman Family Medicine. The driver was Daisy, age 21. She said she was coming from a bar. Daisy also said she was the designated driver. Her passenger kept interrupting. Officer Padrta asked Daisy to step out. He needed to talk to her away from the car. Daisy confessed to having one drink at Zeppoz. Officer Padrta then asked to examine her eyes. He saw that her eyes did not smoothly follow his pen. Suspecting she was impaired, he asked her to do sobriety tests. At first, Daisy seemed unsure. Then, she agreed to the field sobriety exercises. Officer Padrta began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. He watched Daisy's eyes carefully. He saw a lack of smooth pursuit. There was distinct nystagmus at maximum deviation (4/6 indicators). Next, Daisy attempted the Walk and Turn test. She failed to touch heel-to-toe. Her turn was clumsy, and her steps were off. Finally, she tried the One Leg Stand. Daisy couldn't raise her foot correctly. She flailed her arms for balance. Daisy finished the field sobriety exercises but refused a PBT. Officer Padrta spoke with Officer Humphrey. They both thought Daisy seemed impaired. She drank alcohol earlier. Plus, she struggled with the exercises. Officer Padrta arrested Daisy for driving under the influence. Officer Padrta drove Daisy to the station for processing. At the Pullman Police Department, he read Daisy her rights. He also gave her the Implied Consent Warning. Daisy agreed to take a breath test. The breathalyzer showed her BAC was 0.063%. This was below the 0.08% legal limit. After the test, Officer Padrta put her in a holding cell. Officer Shellabarger took Daisy's photo and fingerprints.
