On April 24, 2023, Hoboken Police Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident, where the 25-year-old driver of a Mercedes SUV slammed into the back of a parked vehicle that was occupied by two young women. The accident occurred in front of a fire house and when Officers Bonilla and DeJesus arrived, firemen told them that the woman in the Mercedes appeared to be drunk. The woman was interviewed by officers and initially denied consuming any alcohol. She later admitted that she had been out to dinner and had consumed one margarita. She was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, but she claimed her anxiety was preventing her from completing them. She was placed under arrest and was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. She then claimed her arm was hurt, so EMS was called to assess her injury, but she refused to be transported to the hospital. She submitted to an evidential breath test and the result was 0.23% BAC.
