On January 18, 2023, the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries. When deputies arrived, the 20 year-old female driver had already been removed from her rolled over vehicle by the fire department. Once she had been cleared medically, deputies asked her to perform standardized field sobriety tests (FSTs). She was arrested for DUI and transported to the Sheriff's station, where she agreed to an extended evaluation by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). It turns out the woman is the daughter of a recently retired Bellingham Police Officer.
